Overview
Villains by Necessity is a standalone fantasy novel by American author Eve Forward, published by Tor Books in 1995. It is set on the world of Chiaroscuro, where, more than a century after Good decisively defeated Evil, the land has become dull and dangerously unbalanced. A druid, Kaylana, gathers an assassin, a thief, a cannibal sorceress, a silent black knight and a centaur minstrel to restore evil by recovering the pieces of the Spectrum Key and reopening the DarkGate, while the well-meaning forces of Good try to stop them. It has no sequels and is complete.
