Overview
Written on the Dark is a standalone historical fantasy set in the fictional realm of Ferrieres, a lightly fantastical analogue of medieval France during a Hundred Years’ War-era conflict. Thierry Villar, a tavern poet with a gift for satire, is drawn into a web of political intrigue after a duke is assassinated, and finds his verses becoming as dangerous as any blade. It is one of several independent novels Guy Gavriel Kay has set in this same quasi-historical fictional world, each requiring no knowledge of the others.
