Bernhard Hennen is a German fantasy writer born in 1966 in Krefeld, Germany, and a graduate of the University of Cologne. Before turning to fiction full-time, he worked as a journalist for various newspapers and radio stations. He began his writing career in 1994 with Das Jahr des Greifen, co-authored with fellow German fantasy author Wolfgang Hohlbein, and published historical novels between 1996 and 1999 before transitioning into fantasy. Hennen has also contributed material to the German role-playing game The Dark Eye. He is best known internationally for his Die Elfen (The Elves) series, launched in 2004, an epic fantasy saga that has been translated into numerous European languages, including Dutch, Italian, French, Czech, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Ukrainian, as well as English. He has extended the setting through the Drachenelfen series and the Elfenritter series, and co-authored the multi-volume Die Phileasson-Saga with Robert Corvus. Hennen is married with two children and has resided in Krefeld, his hometown, since 2000. His sustained output across historical fiction, epic fantasy, and tie-in gaming material has made him one of the more prominent figures in contemporary German-language fantasy publishing.
