Synopsis
Die Elfen (2004) opens with the human warrior Mandred seeking help from the elves after a demonic creature attacks his village. He strikes a bargain with the elven queen Emerelle to save his people, agreeing that his unborn son will be raised among the elves. The creature is later revealed to be the last of the Devanthar, ancient enemies of the elves, who deceives and impregnates the elf-woman Noroelle; when Emerelle learns of this, she banishes Noroelle and condemns the resulting child to death. From this point the story follows the elves Farodin and Nuramon, along with Mandred, as they set out to find the Devanthar's offspring and to free Noroelle from her exile, with chapters divided between the perspectives of Farodin and Mandred and those of Noroelle and Nuramon.

Notes
- From the series record (The Elven): Core Canon is the two German novels with a confirmed, unambiguous English translation as "The Saga of the Elven": Die Elfen (2004, tr. "The Elven") and Elfenwinter (2006, tr. as two English volumes, "Elven Winter" and "Elven Queen"). Hennen's own continuation of this same continuity (Elfenlicht, Elfenkönigin, Elfenlied, and later volumes) plus several related prequel/spin-off sequences (Elfenritter, Drachenelfen, the Schattenelfen-Saga) remain German-original and untranslated, and are not itemized as Expanded Canon this pass pending a closer look at how tightly each connects to this core continuity.
