Synopsis

Elfenwinter continues the story begun in Die Elfen. The trolls, seeking to reclaim territory they consider their ancestral homeland, launch a large-scale invasion of the elven realm, and Queen Emerelle is gravely wounded in the fighting. As the war escalates, interdimensional creatures called the Yingiz breach the barriers meant to protect the world, forcing elves, trolls and humans into uneasy alliances against a threat none of them can face alone. The novel widens its perspective beyond the elven protagonists of the first book to include human characters, among them young people caught between the warring civilizations, as the search connected to Noroelle's exile continues against this backdrop of spreading conflict.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Elven): Core Canon is the two German novels with a confirmed, unambiguous English translation as "The Saga of the Elven": Die Elfen (2004, tr. "The Elven") and Elfenwinter (2006, tr. as two English volumes, "Elven Winter" and "Elven Queen"). Hennen's own continuation of this same continuity (Elfenlicht, Elfenkönigin, Elfenlied, and later volumes) plus several related prequel/spin-off sequences (Elfenritter, Drachenelfen, the Schattenelfen-Saga) remain German-original and untranslated, and are not itemized as Expanded Canon this pass pending a closer look at how tightly each connects to this core continuity.
