Blake Charlton is an American fantasy and science fiction author and a physician. Dyslexic himself, he was offered a three-book deal by Tor in 2006 and rewrote his first novel, Spellwright, while at Stanford Medical School; its cacographer hero, Nicodemus Weal, whose touch misspells magical texts, reflects his own dyslexia and his passion for learning-disabled children. Spellwright appeared in 2010 and was followed by Spellbound (2011), which Kirkus listed among the best science fiction and fantasy of the year, and Spellbreaker (2016). The novels have been translated into several languages, and he has been honoured with the International Dyslexia Association's Pinnacle Award. He has since trained as a cardiologist at the University of California, San Francisco.
