Synopsis
Nicodemus Weal has trained at the wizardly stronghold of Starhaven since he was a boy, apprenticed to the legendary Magister Shannon. He is intelligent and gifted in magical languages, but he is a cacographer: any magical text he touches he misspells, and he cannot even touch the gargoyles made of spells without destroying them. Were it not for his cacography, he would surely be the prophesied Halcyon, for he has every other sign of it, including a remarkable keloid scar on his back. When a powerful wizard is murdered with a misspell, Nicodemus and Shannon both are suspected. Blake Charlton's debut, with a refreshingly new look at the power of words and magic.
