Chelsea Abdullah is a Kuwaiti-American author born and raised in Kuwait. She earned a graduate degree from the University of Colorado Boulder and a Master of Arts in English from Duquesne University, building an academic background in literature alongside her creative writing practice. Abdullah has been publishing fiction since 2022, debuting with The Stardust Thief, the first installment of the Sandsea Trilogy, a fantasy series drawing heavily on the storytelling traditions of One Thousand and One Nights and set in a world where jinn are hunted for their magical, healing blood and enchanted relics are pursued by treasure seekers. The trilogy continued with The Ashfire King in 2025, with a third and final installment planned. Her fiction is noted for weaving together nested, layered narratives in the tradition of frame stories, incorporating Emirati and broader Middle Eastern folk tales into an original secondary-world fantasy setting. Publishers Weekly praised her "lush descriptions" for bringing her settings vividly to life and for creating an atmosphere of mystery and enchantment, while The New Arab commended her skill in weaving stories within stories, tales within tales, drawing favorable comparisons to classical Arabic storytelling traditions. Abdullah has quickly established herself as a significant new voice bringing underrepresented Middle Eastern folklore into mainstream Western fantasy publishing.
