Genevieve Gornichec is an American fantasy author from Northeast Ohio who specializes in Norse mythology-inspired fiction. She earned a bachelor's degree in history from The Ohio State University and later pursued a master's degree in Viking and Medieval Norse Studies at the University of Iceland, relocating to Reykjavík to deepen her research into the sagas and history that inform her novels. Her debut novel, The Witch's Heart (2021), reimagines the story of the giantess Angrboda, lover of the trickster god Loki and mother to his monstrous children, and became an international success, translated into more than a dozen languages. Her second novel, The Weaver and the Witch Queen (2023), turns to real historical figures from Viking-era Norway, following Eirik Blood-axe and the sorceress Gunnhild Mother-of-Kings as they navigate a world of political upheaval and dark magic. Both novels combine meticulous historical and mythological research with feminist reimaginings of women whose stories are marginalized in the original source material. Gornichec remains active with readers online and has indicated further work is forthcoming. Her fiction is noted for grounding fantastical Norse cosmology in emotionally grounded, character-driven narratives centered on overlooked women of myth and history.
