Heike Hohlbein was born November 3, 1954, in Neuss, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. She met her future husband, Wolfgang Hohlbein, in 1971 and married him three years later; together they raised six children, including daughter Rebecca, who also became a writer. Heike is a prolific author specializing in science fiction, fantasy, and youth literature, and she serves as co-author on many of Wolfgang's works, functioning primarily as a provider of ideas and inspiration for him, especially within the fantasy genre. The couple ranks among Germany's most successful fantasy writers, having together published more than 200 books and sold more than 43 million copies worldwide. Her bibliography spans multiple series, including the Märchenmond cycle, translated into English as the Magic Moon series, fantasy epics such as Laurin and Silberhorn, and children's literature including the Norg series. The Märchenmond trilogy represents her most widely available work in English translation, published by Tokyopop beginning in 2006. In 2014, RTL II aired a reality docusoap titled Die Hohlbeins – Eine total fantastische Familie about the family, though the show was cancelled after declining viewership. Heike remains a central, if less individually credited, creative force behind the Hohlbein fantasy writing partnership.
