Jody Lynn Nye was born in 1957 in Chicago, Illinois, and developed an early love of storytelling by telling tales to her siblings, cousins, and friends. A prolific American science fiction and fantasy writer specializing in action-adventure and humor, she has authored or co-authored roughly forty novels and more than one hundred short stories over her career. She has taught the Fantasy Writing Workshop at Columbia College Chicago and continues to lead an annual Science Fiction Writing Workshop at DragonCon, mentoring emerging genre writers. Nye is well known for her Mythology 101 series of contemporary fantasy novels and for her extensive collaborations with Robert Lynn Asprin on the MythAdventures series following its original creator's death. She also authored the military science fiction series View from the Imperium and the Dreamland trilogy, and collaborated extensively with Anne McCaffrey on novels set in the Pern and Doona universes, helping extend those beloved shared worlds for new readers. Her archive, like Asprin's, was donated to Northern Illinois University's Rare Books and Special Collections department in 2008. She is married to fellow writer and editor Bill Fawcett, with whom she has collaborated on various publishing projects throughout her career.
