Kritika H. Rao is an internationally bestselling speculative fiction author who has lived in India, Australia, Canada, and the Sultanate of Oman, and draws on these varied cultural experiences in her storytelling. She is the author of the Rages trilogy, a science-fantasy series beginning with The Surviving Sky, which earned starred reviews from major publications and was named an editor's pick for Best Science Fiction and Fantasy of 2023 by a major online retailer; the trilogy continues with The Unrelenting Earth and concludes with The Enduring Universe. The series is set in a world of floating, sentient jungle cities threatened by devastating magical storms, exploring themes of ecological collapse, marriage, and consciousness. She is also the author of the mythology-inspired Divine Dancers duology, comprising The Legend of Meneka, which became a Sunday Times bestseller with starred reviews, and its sequel The Rise of the Celestials. For younger readers, she has written the children's book Shivi's Big Leap, which Kirkus Reviews described as offering peppy encouragement for intrepid youngsters. Rao received a Canada Council for the Arts grant to support a speculative literary work exploring marginalized writers and the publishing industry. She is represented by literary agent Lucienne Diver of The Knight Agency, and her fiction consistently explores questions of identity, selfhood, and the relationship between individual and society within richly imagined secondary worlds.
