Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia. Her debut novel, Sorairo Magatama (1988), the first volume of the Jade Trilogy, won the 22nd Japan Children's Literature Association Newcomer Award and is credited with helping establish that Japanese authors could write original secondary-world fantasy.
