Synopsis
Generations after the first book, Toko, a girl raised in a remote mountain village, and her foster brother Oguna set out across the land after Oguna is drawn into the wars of the imperial court by a sudden, godlike power tied to the Dragon Sword. As his ambitions harden into obligation, Toko undertakes her own journey to recover the scattered beads of a sacred necklace, discovering that divine power brings burdens as often as it grants gifts.

Notes
- From the series record (The Jade Trilogy): Three connected novels drawing on ancient Japanese mythology and history, sharing a world, mythology, and recurring sacred artifacts (the magatama jewels and the Dragon Sword) rather than a continuous cast -- each volume has its own protagonists, generations apart. The third volume, Usubeni Tennyo, has no English translation.
