Olivie Blake is the pen name of Alexene Farol Follmuth, born January 31, 1989, in the San Francisco Bay Area; she is of half-Filipino descent and now lives in Los Angeles with her husband and son. Before becoming a full-time novelist, she earned a master's degree in Urban Planning and worked at a public defender's office while attending law school, ultimately abandoning her legal studies to pursue writing full-time. She adopted the Olivie Blake pen name, originally chosen through a name generator for anonymous fan fiction, and self-published six novels before securing traditional publication. Her breakout work, The Atlas Six, was self-published in 2020 before being acquired and republished by Tor Books in 2022 following a wave of viral popularity on TikTok; it reached number three on the New York Times hardcover fiction bestseller list. The trilogy continued with The Atlas Paradox (2022) and concluded with The Atlas Complex (2024), following a group of magically gifted scholars recruited into a secretive society. Several of her backlist titles, including Masters of Death, One for My Enemy, and Alone With You in the Ether, were subsequently republished by Tor as well. She also writes young adult fiction under her legal name, including My Mechanical Romance (2022). The Atlas Six received Vulture recognition as one of the best fantasy novels of 2022, and a television adaptation of the series was announced in late 2021.
