Sara Hashem is an American-Egyptian writer from California who developed her love of fantasy and magical storytelling during two years her family spent living in Egypt, an experience that has directly informed the Egyptian-influenced fantasy worlds of her fiction. She is the author of the Scorched Throne duology, comprising The Jasad Heir and The Jasad Crown, an adult fantasy series that became an Apple Books pick and a major online retailer's editors' selection, and was translated into seven languages, alongside strong recognition from a widely followed reader-voted awards program as a finalist. She has also written Where No Shadow Stays, a young-adult supernatural thriller, and has forthcoming works including the adult fantasy novel Merciful Carnage, slated for release in February 2027, and the planned Golden Silhouette duology. Hashem describes herself as a "USA Today and Sunday Times bestselling author," reflecting the strong commercial reception of her Scorched Throne series since its debut. Outside of writing, she has playfully described her daily habits as including naming stray cats in her neighborhood and filling coffee-stained notebooks with drafts, and has noted a personal fondness for indoor reading despite growing up in sunny California. Her rapid rise as a fantasy novelist blending Egyptian mythology and folklore with epic-fantasy political intrigue has made her one of the notable newer voices in the genre.
