Shelby Mahurin was born May 21, 1992, in Terre Haute, Indiana, and grew up on a small farm in rural Indiana, attending Turkey Run High School in Marshall; she currently resides near her childhood home with her family and pets. Mahurin began her writing career in 2019 and is an American young adult fiction author who remains active in publishing. She is best known for the Serpent & Dove trilogy, comprising Serpent & Dove (2019), Blood & Honey (2020), and Gods & Monsters (2021), all published by HarperTeen and centered on a witch and witch hunter drawn into a dangerous romance in a French-inspired fantasy setting. She has also published The Scarlet Veil (2023), a gothic vampire romance, with a further novel, The Shadow Bride, announced as forthcoming. Her debut novel, Serpent & Dove, achieved significant commercial success, debuting at number two on the New York Times bestseller list for young adult hardcover fiction, and was selected as the Barnes & Noble YA Book Club pick for September 2019. Mahurin's novels are notable for combining enemies-to-lovers romance tropes with richly atmospheric magical worldbuilding, helping to popularize witch-focused young adult fantasy romance in the late 2010s and early 2020s.
