Synopsis
This volume is narrated by Sir Shurf Lonli-Lokli of the Secret Investigation Service, who recalls his childhood, his training and his growing up. He tells of his meeting with Chiffa of Kettari, a remarkable magician, and of the complex, many-stage operation they carry out together. The story is also tied to the tale of the Mad Fishmonger and to the mysterious Water Crow that gives the book its title.
