Synopsis
The title chest holds fewer corpses than it could have, and is filled instead with mad winds, foreign shamans, deadly knives and mathematical formulas. In place of rum there is a bottle of Ossian ash. The novel is part of the Dreams of Echo cycle, in which Sir Max returns to Echo after six years away and finds the city much changed, with its dreamers in trouble and its familiar friends facing new dangers.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
