Synopsis
Set beyond the Great Wall under the Qianlong Emperor, the novel takes place over a single day, with a century of history told in flashbacks by several narrators. It centres on a feud between four families descended from bodyguards of the rebel leader Li Zicheng, and on Hu Fei, the 'Flying Fox of the Snowy Mountain', and his relationship with Miao Ruolan, the daughter of his family's enemy. (English title: Fox Volant of the Snowy Mountain.)
