Synopsis
Set in the late Ming dynasty, the novel follows Zhuo Yihang, a Wudang Sect disciple from an official family, and Lian Nizhang, a bandit heroine nicknamed the Jade Rakshasa. They first meet during a robbery on the Sichuan-Shaanxi border, and meet again on Mount Hua as opponents. Around them unfold court intrigue, the rising power of the eunuch Wei Zhongxian and a conspiracy of Manchu spies. Zhuo, Lian and the young strategist Yue Mingke are drawn into events in which loyalties, rivalries and romance collide with duty to the nation.
