Synopsis
The novel is set in early Qing China, when anti-Qing feeling runs high. A martial legacy handed down by one of the Seven Swords of Mount Heaven passes to Tang Xiaolan, but the court begins a wide crackdown on suspected rebels. Lu Siniang, caught up in a literary inquisition, becomes a disciple of the One-Armed Divine Nun, while Tang struggles to protect his kin, among them the twin sisters Feng Ying and Feng Lin. Most characters are descendants or apprentices of the Seven Swords, and the story centres on the conflict between martial heroes and the imperial government.
