Synopsis
The fifth novel opens in an unsettled age. The disasters foretold for the world have not yet arrived, but the Wheel of Fate is turning faster, the old beacons are dimming, the Golden Pact has become empty words, and ancient knowledge has been lost or twisted. Several characters each pursue their own aims. One tries to protect the people in his care, another reaches for old power, a third searches the fragments of the past for a sign of what comes next, and a fourth is already at war. The question that frames the volume is where the combined weight of their choices will push the turning Wheel.
