Synopsis
The Break has come over the world and strips off the masks of those who live in it. Gold loses its worth, blood grows dear and treaties lose their force. Even the creatures left behind by the vanished gods cannot avoid choosing a side. The characters, from the Taligan marshals and the exiled princes to cardinals and ships' captains, each decide for themselves, and their decisions weigh on a single shared scale. The book is the first of the volumes grouped as the Blue Gaze of Death. It asks whether the dawn will come at all, and for whom.
