Synopsis
A harsh, pitiless time called Midnight arrives in Kertiana. No one can rescue, shelter or protect anyone else, and each person stands alone in the dark. The book follows a wide cast, including a Taligan marshal and a king, a countess, a young girl from Gaunau, the Lords of the Dark and of Lightning, a plain monk, a viscount, and soldiers and cheesemakers from the neighbouring lands. Each faces a struggle that often looks hopeless. The question behind it is whether powerful and wise figures can still carry the burden, and whether Midnight will pass.
