Synopsis

This 2002 collection brings together four stories set on Pern, most taking place roughly twenty-five hundred years after Landing during the dangerous Ninth Pass. In "The Smallest Dragonboy," a much shorter than average candidate named Keevan overcomes prejudice and a rival's cruelty to impress a bronze dragon at his Hatching. "The Girl Who Heard Dragons" follows Aramina, a holdless girl with the rare gift of hearing dragons, who becomes the target of a ruthless Lady Holdless before being rescued. "Runner of Pern" tells of Tenna, a young messenger who is knocked from the official runner routes and must confront the nobleman responsible. The original story "Ever the Twain" follows inseparable twins Neru and Nian, who are both taken to a Weyr during a Search and each successfully impress their own dragon.
