Synopsis
In this 2022 novel, on the isolated, magic-touched island of Cadence, spirits of fire, water, earth, and wind have long shaped the customs and daily lives of its two rival clans. Jack Tamerlaine left the island as a boy to study music on the mainland, training as a bard, and has largely stayed away since. He is called home when several young women from the island's clans begin disappearing without explanation, a crisis that has left the community fearful and searching for answers the local lairds cannot provide. Adaira, heir to the eastern clan and someone Jack once loved before their falling-out, believes his musical gift may let him reach and bargain with the island's capricious spirits, who are suspected of involvement in the disappearances.
