Synopsis
A Study in Sable shifts the Elemental Masters series into a Sherlock Holmes pastiche, introducing psychic Nan Killian and medium Sarah Lyon-White as young women who work alongside Dr. John Watson and his wife Mary, herself a practicing Elemental Master, investigating cases with an occult dimension beyond Holmes's usual purely rational cases. Their partnership begins with an inquiry into the notoriously haunted Number 10 Berkeley Square, a case that draws them into London's wider psychic underground. The stakes rise sharply when a celebrated German opera singer approaches them for help, revealing that she is being plagued not by one but by multiple malevolent spirits, a situation that forces Nan, Sarah, and the Watsons to combine their different gifts against a threat larger than any of their earlier cases.
