Synopsis

A Taste of Honey, published by Kai Ashante Wilson in 2016, is set in the same world as The Sorcerer of the Wildeeps. Aqib, a young royal assistant, meets Lucrio, a diplomatic envoy visiting from a neighboring kingdom, during a state occasion, and the two men find themselves drawn to each other despite the cultural prohibitions their societies place on relationships like theirs. Over the course of Lucrio's stay, Aqib and Lucrio begin a secret romance, one that forces Aqib to weigh his growing feelings against the expectations of his family and the religious obligations that have shaped his life so far. Told through a non-linear structure that follows the ripple effects of Aqib's choices across years, the novella traces how this brief, forbidden connection continues to shape the rest of his life.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Sorcerer of the Wildeeps): Two novellas set in the same shared fantasy world (an informally named 'Wildeeps' setting), following demigod caravan guards and their entanglements with gods and men; no formally numbered series title exists. No further installments confirmed; the setting also includes earlier short fiction ("Legendaire", "Super Bass") not registered here as no standalone edition/ISBN was confirmed for them.
