Overview
Demane, a caravan guard with hidden divine ancestry, travels a dangerous road through the Wildeeps, a shifting, dimension-overlapping forest where survival depends on staying on the Road, with Isa, the caravan captain he loves, confronting monsters born of an old magic gone wrong. A shared-setting pair of novellas blending sword-and-sorcery adventure with myth and language play: Kai Ashante Wilson mixes African-American vernacular, Spanish, and French with literary prose to portray a caravan-guard world descended from gods who conceal both their powers and their relationship. The Sorcerer of the Wildeeps (2015) won the 2016 Crawford Award for best new fantasy writer; its sequel, A Taste of Honey (2016), continues the story in the same setting. Kai Ashante Wilson's first universe in this canon.
