Overview
Jevick, a young man from the pepper-growing Tea Islands, travels to the literate, book-obsessed empire of Olondria and finds himself haunted by the ghost of an illiterate island woman he barely knew, dragged into court politics and religious conflict as he searches for a way to free himself. A literary, densely written secondary-world fantasy about literacy, empire, and the cost of being remembered. Sofia Samatar's debut and the first of two Olondria novels.
