Overview
The Vandarei Trilogy comprises three linked novels set in Joy Chant's secondary world, most often called Vandarei or Kendrath-Vandarei. The first, Red Moon and Black Mountain (1970), follows three English children pulled into the world to help oppose a rising darkness, in a style often compared to early portal fantasy from the same period. The two later novels, The Grey Mane of Morning (1977) and When Voiha Wakes (1983), are set generations earlier and later respectively, with entirely different casts drawn from the same world's nomadic Hyeniedd and Vandarei peoples.
Chant published only this trilogy of novels in her lifetime; the books remain best known within dedicated genre-history circles rather than to general readers.
