Synopsis
Red Moon and Black Mountain, first published in 1970, follows three English children, Nicholas, Penny, and Prudence, who are drawn from our world into the parallel world of Vandarei at a moment of great peril, where the once-bright Starlit Land of Kendrinh has fallen under the shadow of Fendarl, the banished enchanter of Black Mountain. Separated from one another almost as soon as they arrive, each child is swept into a different part of Vandarei's struggle against Fendarl's growing power, encountering the land's own peoples, mythic figures, and dangers as they search for a way back to one another. As Kendrinh's defenders search desperately for a champion capable of standing against the returned enchanter, the three children find themselves entangled, in different ways, in the search for exactly that kind of hero.
