Overview
Tobias, a centuries-old green man bound to an ancient wood, and Henry Silver, a folklorist who comes looking for him, find their fates entangled with the wood's old magic and its watchful Wild Man. A complete pair of connected novellas blending English folklore with a quiet romance, published by Tor.com as Silver in the Wood (2019) and Drowned Country (2020): in the first, Silver is captured by a lich and Tobias's rescue costs him his own power, leaving Silver to become the wood's new Wild Man; the second follows a rescue quest that opens a door into a dying Fairyland and ultimately lets Silver become mortal again. Silver in the Wood won the 2020 World Fantasy Award for Best Novella and was shortlisted for the Crawford Award, with Locus calling it "a splendid piece of work." Emily Tesh's debut fiction and first universe in this canon.
