Overview

Wraeththu follows the rise of an androgynous, hermaphrodite mutant race on a near-future Earth that gradually takes on a mythic, magical character as the old human world collapses. The original founding trilogy: The Enchantments of Flesh and Spirit (1987), The Bewitchments of Love and Hate (1988) and The Fulfilments of Fate and Desire (1989), introduces the setting and its central character, Cal.

The trilogy is a cult classic that helped define a hybrid of dark, mythic and queer fantasy well before those blends became mainstream, but remains a niche read outside genre circles. Storm Constantine later wrote several further Wraeththu trilogies and story collections in the same setting; those are treated as expanded material rather than Core Canon here.
