Synopsis
Achaja is the eldest daughter of a Great Duke of Troy. Court intrigue and the greed of her relatives strip her of her place in the succession, and she is cast out of her sheltered life into a harsh world. Sent into military service, she is captured and enslaved in the empire of Luan, where a former swordmaster teaches her to fight. She learns that getting anything from life means giving something up. Alongside her, the book follows other characters whose paths slowly converge: Meredith, a wizard who escapes the Order's prison with the help of a strange creature called Virus, and Zaan, a scribe who rises at the court of Orion on a false claim about a lost prince.
