Synopsis

The Great Mountains split the planet into two worlds. In the north, the Polish army is the only one to have adopted automatic weapons, tanks and aircraft carriers, while other nations still favour cavalry. In the south lies the older world of Achaja, where the Arkach empire is in decline and its monuments lie under desert dust. A Polish submarine finds a passage beneath the mountains. In the south, a young witch named Kai is sent from her school to accompany a notable figure, but someone wants her removed because she may be a threat, and a prophecy speaks of her swimming under water in a steel ship.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
