Synopsis
The story belongs to an era of strong women and parallel worlds. Two distant civilizations and military systems collide. The Empire has firearms but still fights in lines on open ground, while the newcomers from beyond the mountains, Poland, are at roughly a 1930s to 1950s level of weaponry and bring ambushes and surprise attacks. The threads of the first volume continue, following Kai the witch, the soldier Shen, the Polish officer Tomaszewski, and Rand, a speculator and intelligence agent who travels with a deaf-mute companion. The book openly references oil and uranium.
