Synopsis

Across the Face of the World opens the Fire of Heaven trilogy with a group of villagers thrown into crisis after Mahnum, a man from their community who had traveled into a distant, hostile land, discovers that it is preparing an invasion. Rather than taking the shortest route to warn his kingdom's rulers, Mahnum chooses to return home first, a decision that leads to both him and his wife being captured by the enemy soon after. Their children are left to take up the burden their parents could not finish: racing across a dangerous and largely unknown landscape both to rescue their parents and to carry word of the coming invasion to those in power before it is too late, launching an urgent journey across the world that gives the trilogy its name.
