Synopsis
In the Earth Abides the Flame continues the Fire of Heaven trilogy after the events of Across the Face of the World, following the surviving characters from the first novel as the invasion they raced to warn their homeland about begins to unfold in earnest. With Mahnum and his wife's fate from the opening volume still weighing on their children and companions, the group must contend with both the advancing threat from the hostile land beyond their borders and the internal politics of kingdoms not fully prepared to believe, or organize against, the danger closing in on them. The second volume widens the trilogy's geography and stakes as the warning carried across the world in the first book begins to be tested by events on the ground.
