Synopsis

Age of Legend is the fourth book of Michael J. Sullivan's Legends of the First Empire series, set at a moment when every culture shares one enduring myth, even as an unexpected betrayal shatters the fragile peace between humans and Fhrey once again. With trust broken, Persephone and her allies must decide whom they can still rely on as suspicion spreads through the Rhune clans. The mystic Suri, whose understanding of her power keeps deepening, and the warrior Raithe are pulled toward the edges of a growing conflict, while at the Fhrey capital the ambitious Mawyndulë maneuvers for standing amid the chaos. As the war presses toward a decisive stage, hope among the Rhunes rests on the nearly forgotten legend of a figure whose true nature has been debated for generations, and whose reappearance could change the balance of the entire war.

Notes

  • From the series record (Legends of the First Empire): 6-novel series (2016-2020) set ~3,000 years before the Riyria universe; per the author's own framing, requires no prior Riyria knowledge. Publication switched mid-series from traditional publishing (Del Rey/Penguin Random House, books 1-3) to self-publishing (Sullivan's own Riyria Enterprises LLC + Grim Oak Press, books 4-6, all Kickstarter-funded); the author has stated this let him release the final three books within a 10-month span rather than Del Rey's annual cadence.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
