Synopsis
Set thousands of years before the earlier Corean Chronicles novels, during the height of the Duarchy's rule over Corus, Alector's Choice follows Dainyl, a Colonel of the Myrmidons, an elite airborne law-enforcement corps that patrols on flying pteridons. After his superior officer is secretly murdered, Dainyl is sent to Dramur to investigate a rebellion brewing there, a mission that leads him to Captain Mykel, a native officer with a latent Talent he does not yet recognize in himself and cannot legally use without facing execution, since magic is supposed to be reserved for the ruling Alectors alone. As the uprising in Dramur escalates and evidence of treachery, corruption and greed among the local military leadership comes to light, Dainyl and Mykel are forced to work together, despite the enormous gulf in status and knowledge between them, to keep the rebellion from tearing Corus apart.
