Synopsis

Scepters finds Alucius returning once more to his Nightsheep farm and to his wife Wendra, who is now expecting their child, hoping this time to finally leave soldiering behind for good. That hope proves short-lived, as Corus is beset by several converging threats at once: a religiously inspired rebellion, the stirrings of an alien menace intent on subjugating the entire population, and renewed aggression from the ancient enemy Madrien, which begins deploying long-buried weapons from its past. Alucius is given command of combined forces drawn from both the Northern and Southern guards, and must draw on his supernatural abilities, alongside his wife's own developing talents and whatever aid the mysterious Soarers are willing to offer, to hold Corus together against enemies attacking on multiple fronts at once. The novel closes out the trilogy that began with Legacies.
