Synopsis

It has been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back. While trying to escape their apartment, Penryn meets Raffe, a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street, his wings cut off by the very angels who kidnapped her sister Paige. Anyone else would have left the angel to die, but Penryn, who needs an ally, strikes a bargain: she will help him reach the angels' stronghold if he will help her find Paige. The first book of the trilogy, named among TIME's hundred best fantasy books of all time.
