Synopsis
Artemis Fowl and the Atlantis Complex finds Artemis afflicted by a fairy-induced psychological condition combining traits resembling obsessive-compulsive disorder, extreme paranoia, and a fractured sense of self, a side effect of the magic he has repeatedly exposed himself to across earlier adventures. The condition produces a troubling alternate persona that periodically takes control of his actions, complicating his ability to think and plan with his usual precision at a moment when a new threat demands exactly that. As Artemis struggles against his own deteriorating mind, his allies must decide how far they can rely on him, and how to protect him from himself, while the underlying danger that prompted the crisis continues to develop around them.
