Synopsis
It was a time of the end of empire. The Romans were abandoning Britain, leaving the remaining servants of empire to try to stem the tide of chaos, and Aurelia was one of them: the child of a magistrate and the wife of a legate, last witness of an elder time and handmaid of the age to come. As the old, well-ordered realm she was born into passes away around her, to be replaced by she knows not what, she must find a way to raise her sons to thrive in such a world, and that question her sons, Aurelius and Uther, are born to answer, with the help of Merlin. Narrated by the mother of Aurelius and Uther, who tells her life story to Myrddin, it is a prequel to the Pendragon Cycle, published in 2025.

Notes
- From the series record (Pendragon Cycle (Expanded)): Avalon (1999) relocates a reincarnated Arthur figure to a present-day setting, a structural departure from the five core novels; Aurelia (2025) is a recent further addition to the cycle.
