Synopsis

The second book of the Riyria Revelations follows Royce and Hadrian as a destitute young woman named Thrace hires them to save her remote village of Dahlgren from a series of nocturnal attacks by an unseen creature. Their investigation draws them into the schemes of the wizard Esrahaddon, who directs Royce toward the ancient elven tower of Avempartha in search of a weapon capable of ending the threat, while Hadrian works to rally the frightened villagers to defend themselves in the meantime. As Royce attempts to breach the tower's long-guarded secrets, the pair begin to learn that the attacks and the tower's mysteries connect to matters far larger than one isolated village, tied to the empire's deeper history.

Notes

  • From the series record (The Riyria Revelations): True first editions are the 2008-2011 self-published novels (Ridan Publishing, run by the author's wife Robin Sullivan), the 3-omnibus repackaging commonly seen today (Theft of Swords, Rise of Empire, Heir of Novron, Orbit Books, 2011-2012) is a LATER combination of these 6 originals, not the first edition. Robin Sullivan is the publisher/business partner, not a co-author, on any title.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.

  • Publication order, within the series The Riyria Revelations: position 2 of 6: previous The Crown Conspiracy (2008) · next Nyphron Rising (2009)
  • Internal chronology, within Riyria / Legends of the First Empire: position 13 of 20: previous Age of Empyre (2020) · next Nolyn (2021)
