A prequel to Bedlam's Bard, written by Ellen Guon alone. Kayla is a young woman with a latent talent for healing who lives in a city dominated by rival street gangs. When a friend is shot, she heals him, and then heals the gang member who shot him. Word of her gift spreads quickly, and the gangs begin to look for ways to use it for their own ends.
