Synopsis
Sequel to Knight of Ghosts and Shadows. The action moves to San Francisco, which is threatened with destruction as the land it stands on is set to break away from the continent. To stop this, a bard must summon the Nightflyers, shadowy soul-consuming beings from the realm of dreams. Eric Banyon and the elves who now live in the city are caught up in the effort, and the summoning carries its own danger for the people who attempt it.

Publication order and internal chronology are tracked as two separate orderings and are never conflated: a book's place in one says nothing about its place in the other.
