Synopsis
The novel begins right after Arthur's death. Britain starts to break apart: his widow Guenevere has only a few loyal companions and cannot hold the tribes together. Constantine, a young Cornish prince, divides the land and takes pieces of it for himself through deceit, betrayal, murder and battle, leaving her with no allies and few resources. She wants to reclaim her throne and rule in Arthur's name, but that goal grows less realistic with every loss. Meanwhile the Saxons see an opening to take British farmland. A cruel betrayal later leaves Guenevere enslaved to a Saxon warlord, and the story follows her struggle to survive and keep alive what Arthur built.
